Equity is basically the part of a loan or lien that has been paid off. It's the part of the investment that the investor owns after paying off the debt. For instance, in the case of a home mortgage, the equity is the part of the home that is paid off. Paying interest does not increase the equity. Navigate: Investing Glossary... (edit)
