Equity investment means buying and holding equity stocks of a company on a stock market by individuals or by mutual funds. This is done with a view to get income from the possible dividends, as also the possibility of capital appreciation, that is, the capital gains. Sometimes, such equity investment may be made even in unlisted companies, that is, the companies which are not listed on any stock exchange. In case, such an investment is made in a new venture, such equity investment is termed as venture capital investment.
